The result is students have the opportunity to forge valuable relationships and experiences within the STEM industry in the North West and beyond.
UTCW’s primary focus is to prepare students for a high quality career within science, technology, and engineering. Students study academic and technical subjects through a range of GCSE and post-16 qualifications. We also offer students the opportunity to focus on developing their practical skills and to work directly with the region’s employers. Our dedicated personal development programme encourages students to challenge themselves by using their skills in Listening, Speaking, Problem Solving, Creativity, Staying Positive, Aiming High, Leadership and Teamwork in all aspects of their UTC career.

Why in Warrington?
The case for an Engineering STEM-focused UTC in Warrington and the sub-region was specifically recommended by the Warrington Skills Commission (2012) as part of the town’s integrated Skills Action Plan. That’s why some of the area’s leading industry employers, Sellafield Ltd and Wood PLC, and Manchester Metropolitan University collaborated to create a University Technical College (UTC) for Warrington.
To support these organisations, sustain these activities and fuel Warrington’s current and future business growth, there is a need for further skills development in the town to ensure the availability of suitably qualified engineers keeps pace with the predicted demographic increase, growth in the sector and the ageing workforce.
Manchester Metropolitan University adds significant value to UTC Warrington as the University sponsor. The University is committed to ensuring it capitalises on its considerable experience within engineering by aligning the School of Engineering closely with UTC Warrington.UTC Warrington marks a step-change in local education provision and helps future-proof the availability of engineering talent locally.
The North West has a proud history of industry and Warrington has historically been a town with a rich engineering and manufacturing heritage. Today, the town is home to one of the UK’s largest nuclear hub (Birchwood Park) and the future holds many projects that will require the technical skills and knowledge that our students will have gained whilst at the UTC. Employers are looking for those young people with the attitude to succeed; at the UTC, we prepare students to have the confidence and skills to do so.
We are located on Dallam Lane, in central Warrington. We work with businesses from across the STEM industry and Higher Education partners from across the North West. With our excellent location, our students travel from across the region to take advantage of what the UTC can offer them.
Our Facilities
UTC Warrington is located on Dallam Lane in Warrington town centre. This makes the college close to both bus and train stations in the town. Our £10m facility is a learning environment like no other in our region. The vast range of equipment allows students to experience the world of work first hand.
We have a range of engineering and manufacturing workshop spaces, classrooms and labs, that have been purpose built to create a unique learning environment. Our building is designed to help students maximise their learning experience from the moment they step foot through our doors, and to have access to resources that they wouldn’t have in any other school.
